Birthday Card - Girl Origami Dress

Some months ago I made a birthday card for my niece with an origami dress at the front. Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture of it. It was so cute, that I decided to make a similar card for my friend's daughter birthday. I have a few origami dresses designs but I used the one that looks more like a girls dress.

What I did:

  1. I cut a piece of paper into a 6" square.

  2. Following the instructions in an origami site I made the dress.

  3. I cut the A4 size SU! Pink card stock in half for the card for a standard card size.

  4. Then using my Fiskars border scallop punch I punch the right hand side.

  5. Then I cut a 1" piece of purple card stock and stand this underneath the scallope.

  6. Using a left over piece of purple I punch the large oval punch to mat the oval above, and paste it on the side.

  7. I used white ribbon around the card next to the scallop starting and finishing on the front so the inside of the card is neat.

  8. Once the ribbon is in place, I stack 4 pink half pink pearls on the top sections of the ribbon.

  9. Then using double sided tape I placed the dress in the card.

  10. Then using a whilte gel pen put some white faux stitches on the exposed purple card.

  11. Finally I used a pink sitcker that said Happy Birthday below the dress.

As soon as I have done the other one I may add a link here to it.

Halloween Card - Mummy

Just like the Frankenstein Card, this one was inspired from Angie Kennedy Juda as well. I really enjoyed making this card. From one piece of A4 you get 2 complete cards. I think I may need to make some more because these are much easier to make and I think I may make more of these to give away on Halloween!

What I did:
  1. From an A4 card of SU! Sahara Sands, I cut two strips of 4" and then cut this in half, making 4 cards from this one piece.

  2. I used one of the cards and cut it in half, and then used one of these halves and torn strips sidewards.

  3. I scrunch each strip and using a sponge, I sponged each strip edge with Chocolate ink.
  4. Using a 1/2" circle punch, I punched 2 white circles and using a 1/4" circle punch, punched 2 black circles for the eyes

  5. Using a 1/2" punch, punched a cream circle and cut it in half for the nose.

  6. Using one of the strips with a straight edge I started gluing each strip one of top of each other, until the front is completely covered.

  7. To complete the card, I glued the nose in place; and the eyes I partially put it within strips and glued it in place.

And Voila!

Halloween Card - Frankenstein

I have been following Angie Kennedy Juda blog for some months now and she has created a number of Halloween cards that I have been wanting to copy for a while. In patitcular 3 that she created to look like Frankenstein, Dracula and a Mummy. So today, inspired by Frankenstein Box, I created a mini Frankenstein card.

What I did:
  1. I used Old Olive SU card stock and cut it into 3 strips of 4" each and then each strip I cut in half, creating a card 4" x 6" (folded in half).

  2. Using black card stock I cut a strip of 2 1/2" and then used my Martha Stewart punch to imitate his hair. I cut a 3" piece and attached it to the top of the card.
  3. For the eyes, I cut 2 x circles using the 1/2" circle punch on white card stock and 2 x circles using the 1/4" circle punch on black cardstock. Stack the black circles towards the bottom of the white circles.

  4. For the eyelid I used a 1" circle punch on SU Old Olive card stock and cut the circle in half. These were too big so I cut about 1/8" from the curve area and attached these the eyes above. Ideally I should have used a 3/8" cirle punch but I don't have it (yet!!!)

  5. For the nose, I used a SU Green cardstock and 1/2" circle punch and cut the piece in half.

  6. As the final touch, I used a black marker and created its mouth in the shape of a "W" as well as some scar marks on its face.

I'm very pleased with the result and even more importantly, very pleased with finally taking the plung this weekend and using some of the supplies I have to re-create some of the cards and items that I have admire on so many blogs for some months. YEAH!!!!!

The next one I want to do is the Mummy one. So watch out.

Happy Birthday to you

My brother-in-law best friends birthday was today, and we were invited to celebrate with him. So in the spirit of my new years resolution, I made a card for him. I wasn't sure where to begin, but the end result was not bad (at least I think!!!)

What I did:
  1. I use a white card for the base. In my scraps box I had some pieces left of card stock and SU! designer paper that I had used in previous cards. So I used a piece of blue card stock and put in on the left had size.

  2. I used a piece of green card stock cut it to fit within the card, used my swirly background stamp with brown ink. Then, I used the ink pad around the edge to give it more dimension.

  3. Punched 3 x 1 1/4" circles and 3 x 1 3/8" circles of a piece designer paper that matched the green on the card stock and the reverse had the brown strips that matched the ink pad I used earlier. 2 of the small circles I used the green side and stack that on the brown side of the large circle. Then on the other set I did the reverse. Then I stuck all 3 in a row on top of the green card stock.

  4. On top of the green card, I put a brown ribbon and tied it up on the edge as that section looked a little plain.

  5. I used the word tag and punch it on white card stock, wrote the Happy Birthday message on it and use the brown ink pad around it for dimension. Unfortunately my finger got on the way and I left a finger print. My husband thought it looked good, so I duplicated the mistake and I "fixed" the rest of the tag to have the same effect. A very lucky mistake as the end result looked good.

Stamping Class - September 09

For this class we did Iris Folding. Quite an interested technique. No difficult at all, but it can take some time.
I chose to use a Xmas Tree for the card, but the options where endless. I could have use one of the other templates instead, but since we are heading into The Silly Season, I thought it would be a good inspiration.

What we did:
  1. Cut the template and stick it on to card stock ready to be used.
  2. Then used the outline from the template to draw and cut this from a piece of card stock that is to be attached to the main card.
  3. For the design I chose I needed 3 pieces of designer paper.
  4. I cut 3 strips of 1" each. For this design maybe 2 would have been enough. Then fold each strip in half.
  5. Stick one strip at a time following the numbers in the template, making sure that the same colours were attached to the same section.
  6. To finish it off, I put a gold brad in the shape of a star on top of the tree.
The end result was quite stunning. What do you think?

Father's Day Card

This year, this card was a little more organise since I did it during my first Stampin Up workshop with my upline.

This item includes a number of different pieces and includes some stamping to create the effect of worn leader. In the inside I got the kids to help me. I created 2 small credit card size cards; one for each where I organise for my daughter to stamp her name on one side and draw something on the other (she chose to draw the 4 or us). I helped my son with the stamping and left him to do the drawing on the other (he picked up a yellow pencil and did some lines, and there I was truing to help him put more colour to these lines. I found out the next day, while putting the items together that he had chosen to do a duck, no wonder he was not interested in using any other colours!!!!).
Here are the results. They did a great job.

I then I added $$$$$ in the inside section of the wallet, as I never now what to buy him. Now he can go and get it himself!

Baby Card

One of my close friends had her baby yesterday and today the kids and I went to visit her and the baby at the hospital. I made last night a card for the baby, but again in the excitement of finishing it and getting the rest of the present sorted out I forgot to take a picture. However I do plan to go back and visit again and hopefully take a quick picture of the card.

In any case before making the actual card, I decided that I wanted to check that what I had in mind would work or not. So here is the trial card I made .......

I bought a pack card templates some time ago for the kids to do crafts with me. I have a pack of flowers, sea animals and some Easter templates too. This time I chose the sea animals which contained a whale, a dolphin, a crab, a fish and a seahorse months ago. You can use these template for anything, so I have been waiting for the opportunity to use one of these again (I used another template set with flowers that I have some months ago). I chose to use for the seahorse template for the trial.

What I did for the trial:
  1. I cut the paper into squares of 2".

  2. Since the paper had lines a didn't what them all go in the same direction, so I made the point of rotating the paper when ever I cut a strip to cut my squares. Then I pasted each square on top of the seahorse.

  3. Once the template was covered and dried, I used a utility knife to cut out the excess.

  4. Then I used a green gel pen and went around each square creating some faux stitching.

  5. To finish it off a put goggle eye.

It looked really good, so then I decided to create the card for my friend.

The same as above, but I chose the whale template instead. Once I had the paper piecing done and the faux stitching finished, I decided to create the illusion of the whale blowhole. So here is how I managed to do that.

What I did for the final card:
  1. I cut 3 pieces of wire in different colours and attach to the letters B O & Y
  2. Then I used my oval punch and 1/2" circle punch to create the message "It's a ... " for the effect of bubbles.
  3. Then I used a 1/4" circle punch to create little bubbles that I stack on to the wire with glue dots.

The effect was great and the card looked fantastic.

For You Cards

I made this card for my mother-in-law and stepmother-in-law to accompany a scarf that my mum made for them. The cards were the same and they looked fantastic. I used some of the Stampin Up papers that I bought (I think they are from the Mini Catalogue). The cards looked fantastic (see for yourselves!!!). The colours are vibrant and as per all Stampin Up papers complement each other really well.

What I did: I used a pre-made white card that I trimmed a little. Then I chose 4 of the Stampin Up papers and cut squares of 1 1/2" each. The I glued them in mosaic format. I put a black ribbon though them joining in at the front (i put tape at the front to hold it in place). I used my large oval punch on one the Stampin Up papers again. They I use my new scallop oval punch on black card stock. Used my white gel pen and wrote the message with faux stitching and because I couldn't read it very well, I used a black marker and put dots on top.

The end result! Another card that I'm proud off.

Anamaria

PS. This is the first time that I have used the Stampin Up papers to create something on my own and i have to say that I LOVE THEM. And the response of the recipients was great too. Love it when people appreciate what I do with my cards. It gives me a great feeling.

Birthday Card - Gone Fishing 3D Card

I made this card for my brother in law. I loved making this card, because I got to use pieces of cards that I have been keeping for months. I got the idea from various sites that I had seen over the last few months and I just wanted to put those together for him.

What I did:
  1. I used some kraft card to cut 2 pieces the same size.
  2. I scored 1/2" and then 3/4" on either side.
  3. On the back section I put blue card stock on the bottom, then I used blue velum and tore pieces to represent the ocean and did the same with a brown/grey/green speckle paper piece to represent the sand.
  4. On the top section I cut a square on the front like a window. I then cut a piece of a wood to represent the fishing rod.
  5. Took a piece of fishing line and asked my husband to tie a small fishing hook on to it. I used a glue dot and dimensional to attach it to the card.
  6. I used small letter stamps to write the message "Gone Fishing".
  7. Then used my oval punch to cut the message out and my new oval scallop punch to matt the piece.
  8. Used some dimensionals and attached it to the corner.
It look quite good. The reaction was better than I had imagined, so happy with the result.

Happy Birthday Tia

I made this card for Aunt today. I love making these cards because I get to use the left overs that I have of papers that I have used in the past. My stash of little papers grows every day now that I'm committed to making all of the cards I give away.

What I used: I white standard card that I trimmed to measure folded 4" x 5". then I used purple paper that I cut into a rectangle (I think it measured 4" x 3.5") and rounded 2 corners. then I used a pick card (again I think this is 3" x 3"). I used a strip a lovely shiny pink paper that I cut into a 1" strip and cut 3 squares. One of these I matted with the same purple and put in the centre of the pink and for a better effect and used dimensionals on all 3 squares. Then I lined with stitching around the purple paper. I then used the same gel pen and wrote the message on it and cut it with my small oval punch and matted this with shiny pink using the large oval punch, placed a pink button in on the side, put dimensionals on it and attached it to the corner.

Again a card that turned up quite nice. And here is the end result!!!

Stamping Class - August 09

For this class, we did a Xmas Card, using a circle punch to make a 3D Xmas Ball. It looks great.

What I did: used one of the circle designs and stamp it 3 times on white stock, punched them out. Then used a large background stamp with the same ink pad that I used to stamp the circles; placed the circles on it and stamped the back of the circles. Then cut half way up on all 3 and inter twinned them, to cause that 3D effect. Used stick strip to attached the 3rd circle to the embellishment. Then stuck it to a white piece of card stock, which i then matted in green. Cut a piece of designer paper and matted than. Stack it to the side and put a ribbon matching the green around it. Then stick the 3D embellishment. Stamp the message on white stick, cut it with the large oval punch. Then using the scallop oval punch a piece on the same green used, and stick this on the bottom corner of the 3D embellishment.

Then addition, did the same embellishment again, but this time I used Stampin-Up 2-way glue and added glitter to it. It looked fantastic, as you can see by the picture.

Farewell

Two of my kids teachers were leaving this week. And of course I decided that I wanted to make a card for them. I had planned to make the same card for them, but due to a couple of mistakes I ended up with 2 similar cards.

No, it is not a mistake both teachers have the same name.

So what I did: I wanted to stamp the message on the card, but mistake number one, I touched the message on one of the cards and I ended up with part of the messaage in my hand, so instead of combining both, I put the flower embelishment on top of the error. The embelishment starts with stamping and embossing it, then used my new watercolour pencils and water brush for the water colour effect. Then I matted the card with some a beautiful paper that matches the colours of the flowers. Then I cut another piece that I used my punch and attached at the bottom of the card. Then I used ribbon across this where I used the mini oval tag with their names to cover where I joined the ribbon ends.

Wedding Card for my Cousin

This card a made for a cousin overseas, who was getting married. We couldn't go, but my sister and brother in law were able to, so I decided to make a card for him and send some money as present.

This one turned up much better than I though, and it was a great learning experience. This is my first ever embossing experience. I loved it. I think I will be doing this again soon.
So what I did, embossed the wedding card on silver. Then used my colour spot and water brush to pain the flowers. At the bottom of the card I embossed the accompaning words to cake. Then I double matted that. I added dimentionals at the back. Put a silver ribbon across the card and the mounted the cake on top.

Here is the end result:

Anamaria

Just a brief note

I've noticed something interesting about me. I love making cards for my friends and their kids. I'm not sure what happens to those cards after I present these to them, but it is such a rewarding experience watching them open the envelop and seeing the card, that that is enough for me.

A few days ago I made card for my girlfriends little girl. She was turning one and we had a small get together to celebrate with her and other friends and kids. I made a really cute card and for the first time in my life a made a card with stamping and water colouring. I loved the end result. And here is the bit I learnt ...... I'm TOO lazy and disorganised. I DIDN'T TAKE A PICTURE!!!! It is not the first time. I have made other cards (I can think of a couple of cards that I made for my sister in law, niece and friends, birthdays) where I was quite proud of my achievement and have no record of them. The intention was to create a post every time I did a card and then add the picture here. The obvious option would be to ask them to take a picture, but that would be too embarrassing to ask them to take a picture of the card I gave them and then send this to me.

Doh, doh, doh ...

Another option .... is to replicate them and do what I had originally planned. So the cards that come to mind are:

  • Sister in law birthday card - origami ladies dress
  • Niece 2nd birthday card - origami girl dress
  • Friends son's 5th birthday card - soccer ball
  • Friend daughter's 1st birthday card - stamping balloons and water/ink paiting with my water pencil
  • Friend son's 4th birthday card - spider man

Boy it looks like I will be busy doing these.

Until then.

Birthday Card for one of my fans

I made this card for a work collegue who believes that my cards are wonderful. I was so happy with her reaction when I gave her the card. In addition I was very please with the results.

What I used: I used my scallop circle to make the large flowers and used my white gel pen to put dots around the scallops. Then I put them together and used stickers to spell the message. Then on the right hand side I matted the mini card that I created with some paper, 3 flowers and ribbon.

The following photo is a detail of the heading.

Not bad!

Birthday Card for 5th Birthday Party

This card is a combination of things that I had a what to do with them. I had bought my daughter a pack of flower templates to do some craft and when i was tiding up my craft area I found them. I decided to use this one for my daughter's friend 5th birthday.

What I did: I used 2 of the flower templates to create the card. I scored the back one at about 2" from the edge to create a hinge so that I could stand the card. Then, I used some paper to create the various petals. I created a version of each and cut them a about 1/8" smaller all around to give that border to each item. Then I pasted each item. In the area where the petals joined the leaves instead of cutting and leaving a border, I put a ribbon around it. To the ribbon I attached with fibre a little 1" tag. In her I just wrote 5th.

I really liked the result. It turned up much better than I had anticipated.

I've become a Stampin Up Demonstrator

Well kind of.

I decide to join during the Scrapbook Special they had, where you paid a lower amount, but you only got the Scrapbook Additional Kit only. So my intention is to have a workshop at least every 2 months and perhaps organise a class in between depending on the upcoming events.

My lovely up line offered to do my first workshop because in my enthusiasm I had never even attended a workshop and so I have no idea how to run them. Anyway, my intention is to run one myself at the beginning of the next quarter.

I'm really looking forward to it. Plus in addition I participate in my up line's monthly stamping classes where I've been learning heaps (which I have been posting already and which I plan to continue still).

So a new adventure has began!!!!!

Kristina Werner Colour Challenge #51

Kristina Werner Colour Challenge #51

Another challenge that I missed on posting, however I took it on anyway and the result is quite cute. I had my mother-in-law in mind when I made this card for her birthday.

How I made it: A5 white card stock, folded in half, used my scallop border punch for the edge. Since my fiskars edge punch has some holes, I passed through them some cross stich fibres and added 1/2" circles behind the scallop. Then I punched the flowers in rose and cut them to form petals, then 1" and 1/2" circles in mustard and chocolate for the centres. As stems I saw these with the same chocolate fibres in the shape of a bouquet.

Here is the end result.

Hawaiian T-Shirt - Birthday Party Invitation - 1st Birthday

I made this invitation for my son's birthday party. It took me a while to find instructions on how to fold them. I used different paper for each invitation, which worked really well because I got to use a lot of the spare A4 sheets I had. The party details I wrote them in the computer and pasted them on the inside of the last fold, instead on the A4 page, that way the invitation didn't have to be completely undone to read the details and then try to remember how to put it back into its shape.

Here are a few samples that I kept.

Birthday Party Invitation - 5th Birthday

Backpack

I made these packpacks as the invitation for my daughter's birthday, and inside I included the details where the party was taking place. However if you wanted you could use it as the lolly bag instead.

It took me a while to find anything on the internet like what I was looking for. Fortunately eventually I did, unfortunately I they didn't have any measurements, so I had to make a few samples to see what worked best. Anyway I ended up with these.

I made purple backpacks for the girls and the invitation details I made them in pink, while the invitation for the boys I made the backpacks green with the invitation details I made them in yellow.

Mini Album

I made this album for my grandmother to celebrate the 2 great-grand kids she had at the time (since I made this album, 2 more have been added, and I believe that there is another one on the way!). She was so happy as she appreciates more tangable photos than the digital versions that we have all grown to love these days. This mini album is easy to make.

How it's made: need 2 covers & 3 squares for the pages of the album, plus ribbon to tie the complete album. It is kind of difficult to describe the rest. Maybe this could be my first tutorial video ..... Nah. Not yet. That could be a "one day maybe, but not right now thing!"

Easter Card

I made this card just as a sample. Some years ago, I bought an Easter card making kit for my daughter to make with me. It contains at least 10 Egg shaped cards and 10 rabbit cards. Unfortunately we never got to use it, until now.

What I used:
Used the Easter Egg Shape and used my fiskar's scallops edge punch, plus I used the left over of those for the pink & yellow lines on the top and bottom of the card. I also used a few flowers that I punched in yellow and a added gold string bow on the top.

Easter Chocolate Bundles

I made these little chocolate bundles for my daughter's ballet friends and for the kid's childcare centre, plus I left I few for some relatives and family friends.

How I made them:

The parcels - I used cellophane squares for each parcel. I put a few eggs on each parcel and then tied them with some ribbon. Then to each bundle I attached one of 2 tag designs.

The tags - I made 2 types.
  1. I created squares in pink, then matted them on white card 1/4" bigger, then I added a flower on one corner and above wrote Happy Easter (you picture below)
  2. I created round scallop cards in pink, then I added a flower on one corner and wrote above Happy Easter (see picture below)

Two peas in a bucket: A Year in Cards - April 2009 Class

I made this card for a family member who was a bit down. Also, I was looking at an education video on Two Peas in a Bucket: A Year in Cards - April 2009 (here is the link http://www.twopeasinabucket.com/cg_display.asp?seed_id=29372 to the page). So I put both things together and got this.

What I used: I used a white card (standard size) from a pack of plain cards and envelopes. I used a spare piece of pink card stock and I cut a square for a piece of Christina Re vellum for the item. I used my Fiskars corner punch to place the vellum in the card, as I didn't want to use adhesive. I them put a small pink buttom in the middle of the flower. I used letter sticker for the sentiment.

Birthday Card - Red Origami Dress

I made this card to my friend and boss on her birthday. The dress represents this lovely red dress that she wears from time to time. So when her birthday came up, I couldn't help but make it to for her.

How I made it - A4 folded in half. I made the dress following origami directions that I downloaded from the internet. Unfortunaly I can't remember where I got the directions, but as soon as I find them or the site I will post them here. Then I added a cream thin ribbon around the card and a gold Happy Birthday sticker on the corner.

I was very pleased with this, although I think next time I will use a thiner paper as it was getting quite hard to fold the dress towards the end. This is just one of a few cards I made with origami dresses on the front. Unfortunately I didn't take a picture of those. But I'm sure I may be doing another of those soon and so I get one then.

For the happy couple on the news of their engagement

I made this card for a friend to congratulate her on her engagement.
How I made it: I cut 9 little squares (1"x1") where I put a red heart brad in the middle and then mounted each on another square 1/4" bigger. Just for a small effect the last square I pasted on an angle.

A birthday card for a friend

This card I made for a close friend of ours on his 40th.

I used a standard card size and then added 6 squares (2 of each colour), then overlapped on top a spotted vellum and on top I put a gold Happy Birthday sticket.

I was really happy with the result.

I will post a couple of other cards soon that I have made lately.

Kristina Werner Colour Challenge #49

Although I'm a didn't meet the deadline for this challenge, I managed to get a card done. YEAH!!!!! I'm sooooooo happy about that, as I have been admiring Krisitina's Blog for weeks and even going to the extend of buying the materials to make the card and then because I missed the deadline that was it.

Since I had someone in mind when I made it, it will be going to a good home where it will be appreciated!!!!!!

The colour combination was fantastic. I had so many ideas come up, but I just couldn't completely translate them into the card. However, for my first challenge I think is OK, although I can't help but think that there is something missing.

Overall, quite happy. (OK, OK over the moon!)

Samping Class - April 09

This was a really interesting class. The technique is quite easy.

How to do it: you use white ink on stamps which are full (not outlines) on black cardboard and then you use water colour pens to paint the images. Here is the card that I made and additional items that I made during the class.

I used a similar image to the one in the card for my brother in laws birthday card. But of course, silly me, I forgot to photograph the card, so I can't show it off!!

Day 1

Here I am. After months of talking about doing this I have finally done it.

For the past few years I have been doing scrapbooking pages about my kids, but lately I have started using the paper that I have to make cards for various ocassion. Since, I have also been checking out some very impressive blogs of people that are very creative and have been learning a lot from them. In some of these blogs they have challenges that if you want you can do within a specified time frame. In the last few months I have almost done a few, but never really got there.

Not having a blog was one excuse as most entries that I would check seem to have blogs. Using other sites was another and I've registered to them too and yet here we are. So now that I have this, I seem to be running out of excuses.

Since this coming weekend is a long weekend, I will be undertaking my first challenge. While it will be outside the time frame specified, I will do it anyway. I will upload it here and it the other sites. This will certainly be a breakthrough.....

So stay tune!!!
