Happy Birthday to you

My brother-in-law best friends birthday was today, and we were invited to celebrate with him. So in the spirit of my new years resolution, I made a card for him. I wasn't sure where to begin, but the end result was not bad (at least I think!!!)

What I did:
  1. I use a white card for the base. In my scraps box I had some pieces left of card stock and SU! designer paper that I had used in previous cards. So I used a piece of blue card stock and put in on the left had size.

  2. I used a piece of green card stock cut it to fit within the card, used my swirly background stamp with brown ink. Then, I used the ink pad around the edge to give it more dimension.

  3. Punched 3 x 1 1/4" circles and 3 x 1 3/8" circles of a piece designer paper that matched the green on the card stock and the reverse had the brown strips that matched the ink pad I used earlier. 2 of the small circles I used the green side and stack that on the brown side of the large circle. Then on the other set I did the reverse. Then I stuck all 3 in a row on top of the green card stock.

  4. On top of the green card, I put a brown ribbon and tied it up on the edge as that section looked a little plain.

  5. I used the word tag and punch it on white card stock, wrote the Happy Birthday message on it and use the brown ink pad around it for dimension. Unfortunately my finger got on the way and I left a finger print. My husband thought it looked good, so I duplicated the mistake and I "fixed" the rest of the tag to have the same effect. A very lucky mistake as the end result looked good.

Stamping Class - September 09

For this class we did Iris Folding. Quite an interested technique. No difficult at all, but it can take some time.
I chose to use a Xmas Tree for the card, but the options where endless. I could have use one of the other templates instead, but since we are heading into The Silly Season, I thought it would be a good inspiration.

What we did:
  1. Cut the template and stick it on to card stock ready to be used.
  2. Then used the outline from the template to draw and cut this from a piece of card stock that is to be attached to the main card.
  3. For the design I chose I needed 3 pieces of designer paper.
  4. I cut 3 strips of 1" each. For this design maybe 2 would have been enough. Then fold each strip in half.
  5. Stick one strip at a time following the numbers in the template, making sure that the same colours were attached to the same section.
  6. To finish it off, I put a gold brad in the shape of a star on top of the tree.
The end result was quite stunning. What do you think?

Father's Day Card

This year, this card was a little more organise since I did it during my first Stampin Up workshop with my upline.

This item includes a number of different pieces and includes some stamping to create the effect of worn leader. In the inside I got the kids to help me. I created 2 small credit card size cards; one for each where I organise for my daughter to stamp her name on one side and draw something on the other (she chose to draw the 4 or us). I helped my son with the stamping and left him to do the drawing on the other (he picked up a yellow pencil and did some lines, and there I was truing to help him put more colour to these lines. I found out the next day, while putting the items together that he had chosen to do a duck, no wonder he was not interested in using any other colours!!!!).
Here are the results. They did a great job.

I then I added $$$$$ in the inside section of the wallet, as I never now what to buy him. Now he can go and get it himself!

Baby Card

One of my close friends had her baby yesterday and today the kids and I went to visit her and the baby at the hospital. I made last night a card for the baby, but again in the excitement of finishing it and getting the rest of the present sorted out I forgot to take a picture. However I do plan to go back and visit again and hopefully take a quick picture of the card.

In any case before making the actual card, I decided that I wanted to check that what I had in mind would work or not. So here is the trial card I made .......

I bought a pack card templates some time ago for the kids to do crafts with me. I have a pack of flowers, sea animals and some Easter templates too. This time I chose the sea animals which contained a whale, a dolphin, a crab, a fish and a seahorse months ago. You can use these template for anything, so I have been waiting for the opportunity to use one of these again (I used another template set with flowers that I have some months ago). I chose to use for the seahorse template for the trial.

What I did for the trial:
  1. I cut the paper into squares of 2".

  2. Since the paper had lines a didn't what them all go in the same direction, so I made the point of rotating the paper when ever I cut a strip to cut my squares. Then I pasted each square on top of the seahorse.

  3. Once the template was covered and dried, I used a utility knife to cut out the excess.

  4. Then I used a green gel pen and went around each square creating some faux stitching.

  5. To finish it off a put goggle eye.

It looked really good, so then I decided to create the card for my friend.

The same as above, but I chose the whale template instead. Once I had the paper piecing done and the faux stitching finished, I decided to create the illusion of the whale blowhole. So here is how I managed to do that.

What I did for the final card:
  1. I cut 3 pieces of wire in different colours and attach to the letters B O & Y
  2. Then I used my oval punch and 1/2" circle punch to create the message "It's a ... " for the effect of bubbles.
  3. Then I used a 1/4" circle punch to create little bubbles that I stack on to the wire with glue dots.

The effect was great and the card looked fantastic.

For You Cards

I made this card for my mother-in-law and stepmother-in-law to accompany a scarf that my mum made for them. The cards were the same and they looked fantastic. I used some of the Stampin Up papers that I bought (I think they are from the Mini Catalogue). The cards looked fantastic (see for yourselves!!!). The colours are vibrant and as per all Stampin Up papers complement each other really well.

What I did: I used a pre-made white card that I trimmed a little. Then I chose 4 of the Stampin Up papers and cut squares of 1 1/2" each. The I glued them in mosaic format. I put a black ribbon though them joining in at the front (i put tape at the front to hold it in place). I used my large oval punch on one the Stampin Up papers again. They I use my new scallop oval punch on black card stock. Used my white gel pen and wrote the message with faux stitching and because I couldn't read it very well, I used a black marker and put dots on top.

The end result! Another card that I'm proud off.

PS. This is the first time that I have used the Stampin Up papers to create something on my own and i have to say that I LOVE THEM. And the response of the recipients was great too. Love it when people appreciate what I do with my cards. It gives me a great feeling.
